A few announcements before we get to my post today: Thanks to those of you who followed us around on the Bear Talk Blog Tour this week. Thanks to everyone who submitted prompt ideas for the Story Orgy Road Trip anthology, coming (*snickers*) this summer. While all the prompts were great, only 6 entries could be selected, and I’d like to congratulate Myristica Onenine who submitted the prompt I selected: A workaholic businessman; Trip from the West Coast to the East Coast, a literal ‘road trip’ to Boston; Flash Flood/Overflowing River. I can’t wait to get started on that juicy story! For a complete list of winners, hop around to all our blogs, or click the following link to visit The Story Orgy Blog and see who won. Are you ready to get your Road Trip on, Story Orgy style?

The delicious Jade Baiser found our smexy picture this week, as usual. Don’t forget to stop by her blog and read her post for today’s prompt.

Speaking of today’s prompt, let’s get on with it! This week I’m writing a Hook Up, and our prompt was the following: In a bit of magic, your character gets to relive one birthday…

Oh boy, I may have to fudge this one a little. But, let’s go back to the basement of Kirkpatrick Manor, and see if Dan and Jack are still able to convince Angelica to keep those dolls at bay.

I Am Not Myself

Tense silence fell across the basement. The doll by Jack still looked to Angelica across the room for permission to stab him.

Dan felt a wave of dizziness, and closed his eyes. He remembered, suddenly, his thirteenth birthday. He’d had a party, just a few friends, but his mother and father had been distracted. It wasn’t until afterwards he understood why.

A girl had been murdered. Just turned eighteen the week before. The police had caught Astor Kirkpatrick in the woods behind Kirkpatrick Manor, a bloodied knife in one hand, the girl’s spleen in another. Though he was almost 85 years old, he had put up quite a fight, according to the news.

Dan remembered, now, seeing video of Angelica, then in her late 40s, stunning and stone faced, standing alongside her mother, Abigail, herself 62. Dan’s third piece of cake sat on a plate before him, forgotten for the moment, as he watched.

The Kirkpatrick family marries young and reproduces fast, Dan remembered hearing his father grumble.

His mother had clucked her tongue. That Angelica is nice. Let’s hope she can overcome her grandfather’s legacy.

And now, here in the basement of Kirkpatrick Manor, Dan and Jack were surrounded by violent, murderous dolls who looked to Angelica for guidance.

“Spare him,” Angelica said to the doll ready to kill Jack. “For now.”

Dan thought of the stack of missing persons files on his desk, then the heavily wooded grounds around the manor, and said to Jack, “I get it.”

Dan gets it! Dan gets it! But … what is it?! Guess we’ll have to wait until next week to find out. But, for now, jump on over to the other Story Orgy blogs for more hot, smexy reads.
