Story Orgy – I Am Not Myself, Part 3

Good Monday morning, Story Orgy friends. Gadzooks, is January half over already?! Before we know it the crocuses will be peeking up through the thawing dirt. Ahh. Until that time, though, your Story Orgy is here to make your winter Mondays manageable.

First things first! The Story Orgy Goddess, Em Woods, is part of a hot, hot, hot anthology releasing today from Total E-Bound. Click on over to download His Hero, a collection about, well, heroes! Those men in uniform who go above and beyond to save us all. Mmm. You’re going to love her story, “Only Sam,” about a firefighter and the sparks that fly between him and the owner of a restaurant.

Your Story Orgy writers are up for an award and we need your help! We’d just love you to pieces if you’d click on over to Dawn Roberto’s reading nook and vote for our Breathless Press anthology, Word Play in the LRC Loop’s Best of 2011 Contest!

Did you get yourself over to Breathless Press to download Lee Brazil’s latest story, The Librarian, which was released on January 6? Click here to go there now and get the latest romance from a great writer.

Okay, on with the post. My post this week is a Hook Up, and our prompt is a situation: A young man who’s just spent several hours studying at a coffeehouse notices someone watching him. I don’t know about you, but I just got a chill! Let’s scroll down and see what’s going on, shall we?

I Am Not Myself

Jack sat back and rubbed his eyes. He’d been sitting in the coffeehouse for hours, studying to prepare for his detective Oral Board Interview. As usual, he chuckled at the words: Oral Board Interview. Maybe he could get Dan to practice with him.

Dan.

The thought of his ex-partner, a detective himself, a good friend and, now… What? Boyfriend? Too soon. Date? Maybe. But they’d only kissed once, a week ago, on New Year’s Eve. Since then, they hadn’t spent any time together, and Jack worried he’d messed up his chances with Dan.

He covered his yawn and glanced around the coffeehouse, gaze catching that of a man sitting in a shadowed corner. The man looked away, but the eye contact had sparked Jack’s inner alarm. The man had been sitting there staring at him the last few hours. Was it a come on or a threat?

One way to find out.

Jack stood and stuffed the books in his bag. He pushed his arms into his coat, grabbed his bag, and headed out into the cold bite of the night air.

As he walked down the empty street, Jack heard the coffeehouse door open behind him, felt his senses sharpen. Footsteps behind him, gaining ground. He ducked around a corner, waited, grabbed the man as he hurried around the corner, slammed him face first against the wall and pressed a forearm against the back of his neck.

“Why are you following me?”

“They’re in danger!”

Darn it! I’m limited to 250 words on my Hook Ups. Well, guess you’ll have to come back next week and see who this stranger is talking about! For now, though, click on over to the other Story Orgy blogs and enjoy the rest of your Monday, and I’ll see you next week.
