Story Orgy – I Am Not Myself, Chapter 13

Good Monday morning, Story Orgy Fans! Welcome to April! I hope this month of springtime and showers treats you well, and you’ve got the colors for your Easter eggs ready to go.

Before we get back to Dan, Jack, Nora, and those psycho crazy dolls, a couple of announcements. Lee Brazil has a new release coming out soon, Mark’s Opening Gambit. And Em Woods is taking a step on the wild and scary side with her upcoming story Flying High. Click on over to the Story Orgy blog to read blurbs for both books and find pre-order links you can follow.

Our lovely picture today was found, as usual, by the lovely Jade Baiser, who’s pulling double duty (that sounds dirty!) as our photographer and a Story Orgy writer.

Okay, on with the story. I’m writing a hook up today, and our prompt was a snippet of dialogue: “One thing I have to say…”

Are you ready? Let’s go back to the clearing in the woods around Kirkpatrick Manor, and see what’s happening.

The clearing was lit with portable floodlights, making it seem even more like a movie set. Dan stood nearby and stared at the dolls scattered around the stone altar. Old blood stains lay on the granite like rust, and a tech carefully scraped off flakes into a glass vial.

“Another grave back here,” someone called from the woods. Flashlights wobbled as team members headed that way. So far nineteen graves had been found, but Dan knew there would be more, many more. At least one for each doll that lay at his feet.

“Sure you don’t want to leave?”

Dan looked up. It was his boss, Captain Laitner, a concerned look on his face.

“No,” Dan said and looked back at the dolls. “I want to make sure they’re all picked up.”

Jack had been taken to the hospital where he was in surgery. Angelica and Elena had both been taken to the hospital as well. Elena was still alive, just unconscious, and Angelica had several broken bones and slight hypothermia.

Across from Dan, a detective picked up a doll and slipped it into a plastic evidence bag.

“Preliminary checks show that the dolls have something organic inside them,” Captain Laitner said. “Your theory might be right.” He cleared his throat and reached out to nudge a doll with his shoe. “You’re sure you want to go on record about them moving?”

“Absolutely.” Dan said, then sighed. “One thing I have to say, Angelica throws one fucked up garden party.”
